Escape the 30-Year Mortgage Trap & Save Thousands
Robbie, CEO of Axon Property Group, shows how homeowners can turn unused home equity into a simple, low-risk investment strategy to pay off their mortgage faster and build real wealth. No gimmicks, just a clear plan to take control of your finances.
Escape the 30-Year Mortgage Trap
In this video, we share a practical strategy for Australians looking to break free from the long grind of mortgage repayments. Many homeowners unknowingly sit on “lazy” or “dead” equity in their homes, paying decades of interest without building real wealth. Robbie explains how you can leverage that equity to fund your first investment property, carefully chosen to provide steady, low-risk growth.
By holding the property for a few years and allowing it to appreciate, you can repeat the process, gradually building a portfolio that eventually lets you pay off your own home much faster. This method isn’t a risky scheme, it’s a straightforward, repeatable plan that can put you in control of your finances, reduce your home debt, and create real wealth over time.
Robbie breaks it down in simple, no-nonsense terms, giving you the tools to start thinking strategically about your money, your home, and your future.

Hey, I’ve got some news for you. If you’re living in your own home and you are slugging away at your mortgage, you don’t have a wealth creation plan, you are saving your way to wealth and you are stuck in what’s called the 30 year mortgage trap.
Would you like me to show you how to get out of that 30 year mortgage trap?
Here’s some stats for me to get started though, right? If you’re living in your own home, you’ve got a $400,000 loan. A lot of people would cut their left arm off, they have only a $400,000 loan. So it’s not actually that that high.
If you take 30 years to pay that loan off at 4.5% interest rate, guess what? Home ownership interest rates are going to be there very soon, if not already. By the time you’re watching this, it’s going to cost you about $729,000 to pay off your own home. 400 thousand to 729. If that doesn’t give you a big gulp, I don’t know what will.
But here’s the thing, there’s a way out of this. If you have equity sitting in your own home and you’re not using it, it’s called lazy or dead equity. But what you can do is now use that equity and take it as a deposit and cost for your first investment.
Now, that first investment is going to be placed in the number one place in Australia, that’s going to give you the sustained and low risk capital growth that’s going to suit your price point, it’s going to suit your timeline, it’s going to suit your risk profile.
You then sit on that property for a couple of years, allow it to go up in value, hey presto, there’s equity in that property as well. And you can basically repeat the process. That’s all you need to do over the next few years to escape the 30 year mortgage trap.
This is not one of these sort of Ponzi schemes where 1 becomes 2, 2 becomes 4, 4 becomes 8, 8 becomes 16. If you ever see that on the Internet, stop watching. Block delete. See you later.
It’s not that hard to buy two investment properties if you’re living in your own home.
But what does it mean when you sit on that portfolio for say, the next 10 years? All right, we’ve now estimated that you still owe about $300,000 on your own home.
Guess what? If those two properties only go up by 3 or 4% each which is not that bloody hard if you choose correctly. What you can do is then refinance those properties, grab 150 grand out of both of them, bring it down onto your own home and wipe out your home loan in one day.
You now the really really smart people around you might be going well the portfolio still sits exactly the same. I’m like yeah I got it Einstein. You still owe the same amount of money.
But what we’re trying to do here from a mindset perspective is wipe out the debt on your own home and put it against your investment properties that have rental incomes and tax returns.
But what does that really really mean? Sort of bottom line dollars here now that new cost is effectively $200,000 less.
So by going ahead and thinking about putting a plan in place to simply buy a couple of investment properties so you’re not just stuck in the 30 year mortgage trap, to me is a no brainer.
