From Midshipman to Property Investor

In this inspiring case study, a young ADF Midshipman shares how he started investing early in his career — using Axon’s structured approach to build financial security before leaving Defence.

Getting ahead financially while still serving in the ADF is one of the smartest moves you can make. In this story, a young Navy Midshipman explains how early planning and guidance helped him move from saving pay to owning a high-performing investment property.

Unlike traditional buyers’ agents, Axon takes time to educate and coach Defence members through every step — from finance and structure to long-term risk management. This patient, informed process helps build confidence and clarity in each decision.

By investing early, he’s now positioned to leave the ADF with a strong financial foundation and a growing asset base. His story proves that with the right guidance and a solid plan, your Defence career can be the perfect launchpad for long-term wealth creation.

Luke:

So it was 2019, I’d just joined, I was a young midshipman at the time. Early days, everyone was getting cars and was looking at possibilities of investments. Robbie’s ad came up and I’ve been saving since 2019 through getting in my own car scout through Axon as well.

It comes off the business model that Axon has. Looking at what trust you can get, there’s a lot of options. But I always came back to Axon being that their business model is related to defence and they’ve got a great track record. The best part about the training was very much that it wasn’t rushed. Comparative to a lot of other buyers, agents, it’s very much, I want to present a property next week. Whereas Axon takes the time, there was more of the process and understanding risk.
It’s a key milestone for me looking at getting out of defence in a couple of years. Having some property as a base to work off investments. I just wanted to invest my money nice and early with a good group of people essentially and build off that.
